What is an Au pair Luxemburg?

Requirements

To work as an au pair in Luxembourg, you must meet the following requirements:

• You are between 18 and 30 years old.
• You speak English well and have basic knowledge of French, German, or Luxembourgish.
• You have at least a secondary school diploma.
• You are unmarried and do not have children.
• You are healthy and motivated to become part of a host family.
• You are not related to the host family.

Working as an au pair

As an au pair in Luxembourg:

• You work a maximum of 25 hours per week.
• You work a maximum of 5 hours per day.
• You help with the daily care of the children and light household tasks.
• You receive free accommodation and meals.
• You have at least one full day off per week.
• You are entitled to two consecutive days off per month.

Mandatory language course

During your stay, you will attend a mandatory language course in one of Luxembourg’s official languages: French, German, or Luxembourgish. This will help you improve your language skills and also allow you to get to know Luxembourg’s culture better.

Insurance

As an EU au pair, you are insured for necessary medical care with your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

In addition, the host family will register you with the Centre Commun de la Sécurité Sociale (CCSS), ensuring that you are covered for healthcare and accidents during your stay according to Luxembourg regulations.

Depending on your personal situation, we also recommend taking out additional au pair or travel insurance for extra security during your stay.

Basic coverage (EHIC)

As an EU au pair, you are insured for necessary medical care with the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), issued by your health insurance provider or healthcare authority in your own EU country.

The EHIC gives you access to necessary medical care during your stay in Luxembourg through the Luxembourg public healthcare system, under the same conditions as Luxembourg residents.

The EHIC does not cover, among other things, repatriation, personal liability, or travel baggage. Therefore, we recommend taking out additional au pair or travel insurance.
