Requirements

• Diploma: An MBO diploma (minimum Level 2 or 3), such as Pedagogical Worker or Care and Welfare Assistant. If you do not have a diploma, you may be able to obtain one through certain training programs or academies.
• Pediatric First Aid: A valid First Aid for Children certificate.
• Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG): A recent Dutch Certificate of Good Conduct.
• Registration: Registration in the National Childcare Register (LRK) through an officially recognized childminder agency.

Steps to Get Started

1. Register: Sign up with an officially recognized childminder agency, as in-home nanny care is legally considered a form of registered childminding in the Netherlands.
2. Introduction: Attend interviews with families looking for a nanny in your area.
3. Agreement: Sign a childcare agreement with the family.
4. LRK Registration: The childminder agency will register you in the National Childcare Register (LRK) so that parents may be eligible for childcare benefits.
5. Employment Contract: You may work either as an employee of the family or as a self-employed nanny (freelancer), depending on the arrangements and the agency.

Important Organizations and Regulations

• Dutch Tax Administration (Belastingdienst): Under the Home Services Scheme (Regeling Dienstverlening aan Huis), if the nanny works no more than three days per week, the family generally does not have to withhold payroll tax or social security contributions. Parents may also apply for childcare benefits if eligible.
• Childminder Agency (Gastouderbureau): The agency must approve the childcare arrangement and register it in the National Childcare Register (LRK). This registration is required for parents to qualify for childcare benefits.
• Occupational Health & Safety (Arbowet) / GGD: The family’s home must provide a safe and healthy working environment for the nanny. The childminder agency usually carries out these inspections.
• DUO / Childcare Persons Register (PRK): The nanny must be registered in the Persons Register for Childcare (PRK) and hold a valid Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG).
